A work of art that fuses Japan's pride and joy, "special effects technology x traditional technology"
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the series' broadcast, a hanging scroll depicting Ultraman and Alien Baltan in combat poses, drawn using ink painting, has been released!
The Ultraman Series is a representative Japanese special effects hero program produced by Tsuburaya Productions that has aired since 1966 and continues to this day. The original "Ultraman" aired a total of 39 episodes from July 17, 1966 to April 9, 1967. Now, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ultraman Series airing, we have produced a hanging scroll depicting "Ultraman" and "Alien Baltan" based on the original "Ultraman."
Kakejiku are masterpieces of calligraphy or painting decorated with woven fabrics called kire. This not only enhances the appeal of the work, but also serves the function of protecting it. Furthermore, kakejiku can be easily carried around by rolling it up, making it an art form handed down from ancient times that allows works to be taken to various places and spread to the world.
The original artwork was done by Shiramichi, a Japanese painter who creates realistic ink-wash paintings. Ultraman is depicted striking his familiar fighting pose against the backdrop of the beautiful Mount Fuji, while Alien Baltan is depicted with both arms open in a provocative manner, with a vibrant touch that makes you feel as if you can hear his cry of "fo-fo-fo." By displaying the two works side by side, a powerful battle scene unfolds before your eyes.
As this is a commemorative piece about a hero that Shiramichi himself admired, his feelings and passion come through in the piece.
The tailoring was done by a first-class mounter who has worked on numerous artworks. Out of respect for the 50-year history, and out of the craftsman's own desire to create the best possible work, he has been a project member since the beginning. This is a masterpiece created with particular attention to every detail of the hanging scroll, including the combination of fabrics and dimensions.
To ensure that the hanging scroll can be preserved for a long time, it is stored in a paulownia wood box that is resistant to corrosion and has insect-proofing properties. It is also delivered in a special storage box. The box is inscribed with the calligrapher's own handwriting, "Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the start of broadcasting Ultraman Series," and a certificate with an approval seal is also attached as proof of its authenticity. If you keep it in the box, you can enjoy its timeless beauty forever.
