HOME > BANDAI OFFICIAL TOY SHOP> CSM Bray Buckle Release Commemoration! Interview page with Tsubaki Takayuki, voice of Kenzaki Kazuma

◆ The CSM "Bray Buckle, Rouse Absorber and Bray Rouser" will be released at the perfect timing, as "MASKED RIDER BLADE", which began airing in 2004, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year (2019). What were your first thoughts about this?

To be honest, I felt like, "It's finally here!"
Personally, I participated in the survey because I really wanted the Brave Buckle to be commercialized next (laughs).
I was really happy that (Bray Buckle) was selected for the next CSM.

◆ Did you have the "DX Bray Buckle" that was on sale at the time the show aired?

Yes. I treasure the one I received from Bandai. It's now at my parents' house, though.
When I got the product for the first time, I was so happy that I actually played with it.

◆What are the differences between the Braybuckle prop used in filming and the DX version?

The painting method was fundamentally different.
Toys tend to have shiny parts that make them appealing to children.
Also, the belt part that goes around the waist is too small for an adult to wear.
That's about the only difference. The props used in the photo shoot and the real product (DX) look quite similar in appearance, but the amount of emotion put into them is very different between toys and the real thing (props).

◆How did you feel when handling the props for filming?

Toys exist for children to have fun playing with, so I feel free to touch them, but I can't touch the belts used in the photo shoot with the same feeling.
The staff kept telling me things like "Think of it as your life" and "Take great care of it!" so I couldn't afford to drop it by accident and I was under a lot of pressure.

◆What were your impressions when comparing this CSM Bray Buckle with the DX version?

The parts that were omitted from the toy and the bright colors that were used for appearance purposes are gone, making the appearance closer to the props used in the movie. At first glance, the impression is also similar to that of a prop.
It reminds me of the tension I felt during filming, not wanting to accidentally break it (laughs).
I also met many people who came into possession of the DX version of the belt and asked me to sign it.

◆ This time, Tsubaki-san, you recorded many memorable lines from MASKED RIDER BLADE, as well as emotional screams, for the sound ver. A.N.I.M.E. of the CSM Bray Buckle.

Certainly, we recorded a lot!
It's a strange feeling to hear your own voice coming from inside the belt. For example, the audience can shout the word "Transform!" at the same time as me. I think it's an amazing feeling to become "Kenzaki."

◆How did it feel to voice Kenzaki again after such a long time?

It was really hard (lol)!
First of all, it was difficult to reproduce Kenzaki's voice at that time. During filming, he spoke while fighting the undead, and he dubbed his lines while watching the footage, so many words were spoken unintentionally in the tense situations. It was quite difficult to cut out parts of that and have him speak only his own lines without an interlocutor. It felt like he was talking to himself over and over again (laughs).

◆What are some of your favorite lines from MASKED RIDER BLADE?

I felt like I had to include "Tachibana-san! Why are you looking! Tachibana-san, did you really betray me!?" (laughs).

Next, I like the line, "Every time one person falls victim, turn it into pain. Turn it into a spring that makes you want to defeat the undead. That's the only way we can live. Turn all the pain and sadness into a spring and go on living."

Another good one is "Maybe you're right. No hero will come if I just wait. That's why I've decided to protect everyone! Even if I can barely protect you alone right now, I won't give up. I don't want to lose to fate!"

His final words to Hajime, "We will never meet again, nor will we ever touch each other. And that's fine...", are filled with melancholy and are beautiful.

If we choose from The Movie, how about "Hajime! You just woke up and you're going to sleep again? Stand up! Let's go!" "Sleep" is a line that you don't often say in everyday life (laughs).

◆If you have any tips on how to make Kenzaki's transformation pose look cool, please let us know.

Strictly speaking, the angle of the hands when transforming isn't that important.
Just like Kenzaki, if you put all your energy into protecting the person in front of you from the undead, without any leeway, you can transform coolly. My movements have become completely ingrained in me through a year of filming, so it's not something that can be taught to me by someone else.

◆Finally, please give us a message for those who will purchase the CSM Bray Buckle.

Finally, Bray Buckle is released.
When I look at this product, various memories from the filming of "MASKED RIDER BLADE" come to mind.
Back then, I would put on the transformation belt and keep practicing the transformation poses until it completely adapted to my body.
I hope you will continue to play with the CSM Bray Buckle until the transformation movements become second nature to your body!
