■ Attention to detail in scene reproduction, movement, and modeling

-What kind of item is "SMP Meteor Fusion Victory Mars"?

Z-man: As part of the Super Minipla, SMP series, this is the fifth giant robot from Super Sentai Series "Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive". Victory Mars has been commercialized for over four years since the first release in 2020, "Super Minipla Emergency Combined Victory Robo". The SMP series' brand concept is ""S"cene (scene reproduction)", ""M"otion (movable)", and ""P"roportion (modeling)", and it is item that adds movement, transformation mechanisms, and reproduction of scenes from the play... which is exactly what could not be achieved with toys at the time.

--Please tell us about the attention to detail behind "S"cene (scene reproduction).

Z-man: First of all, it perfectly recreates the quadrupedal form of Beetle Mars. In episode 30, "Escape! Dark Planet," where it first appears, the Mars Machines are dispatched on a space rescue mission to destroy an asteroid falling to Earth. Victory Mars is the combined form of these five Victory Machines, but in the story they first combine into Beetle Mars. The combined form of the Mars Machine then places a small bomb, the Mogul Bomb, on the planet, and in "SMP Shooting Star Fusion Victory Mars," the arm deployment at that time is recreated along with the small bomb.

--The Mogul Bomb is quite small, but the details are precise.

Z-man: This is probably the first time it has been made into a 3D figure, and it can be held firmly in place by the arms. It is extremely small in scale compared to the main body, and four are included, including a spare.

-What do you think about the transformation from Beetle Mars to Victory Mars?

Z-man: This transformation is called "Rising Formation" and, just like in the movie, Beetle Mars transforms into Victory Mars by rising from the so-called "bridge" position. Also, when transforming, the face parts unfold from Red Mars 1, which is the torso, and the highlight is how it changes from a square shape when stored to a "diamond shape" like a pantograph. This kind of detailed ver. A.N.I.M.E. would be difficult to realize given the scale of the SMP series, but even though it's small, it's perfectly reproduced.

--What do you think about the "M"otion (movability) and "P"roportion (modeling) of the SMP series?

Z-man: The giant robots of Super Sentai Series in the SMP series all pay homage to the DX toys of the time. Each item combines the best parts of the giant robots that appear in the show and the DX CHOGOKIN, but with Victory Mars, we made sure not to make any adjustments, and kept the proportions of the standing figure close to the DX toys. Within that, we pursued mobility that goes beyond that of the DX toys.

--Please tell us about the attention to detail you put into the movable ver. A.N.I.M.E..

Z-man: The shoulder extension mechanism is a feature not found in DX toys of the time. This extension allows the main weapon, the jet lance, to be held in a natural form, including with both hands. Also, the jet lance is equipped with a spring-loaded top jet firing ver. A.N.I.M.E., just like the DX toys of the time.
I believe that the reason the SMP series is not just a plastic kit is because it also incorporates a certain amount of "toy-like play."

--How about movement other than in the shoulders?

Z-man: There is clearance behind the knees, and the knees are movable as Beetle Mars, so they can move well. Also, although this may be standard for the SMP series, the ankles can move flexibly back and forth and side to side, so the ground contact performance is also high. In addition, the front skirt part can move so as not to interfere with the movement when the thighs are raised, and other movements that do not affect the proportions and are not noticeable at first glance are incorporated everywhere, allowing you to recreate various poses from the movie.

What about the color coding and coloring?

Z-man: The coloring, including the silver that is typical of mecha, aims to give the image of the DX toys of the time. Also, some parts of the DX toys of the time used alloy, and we expressed the texture of this alloy through coloring. The most noticeable part is the toe parts of the feet. We are continuing to make adjustments so that you can feel at least a little of the impression you get when holding the toys of the time, the heavy metallic image. In addition, the blue of Blue Mars 2 is a different blue from Victory Robo, with a slightly paler image, and we will continue to make adjustments to this area until the end.

▲The prototype for "SMP Ryusei Gattai Victory Mars" is currently undergoing final adjustments, including the coloring. By using different molding and painting colors for the silver, a sense of weight reminiscent of the toys from that time has been pursued.

--Please tell us about the Mars Machine before it combines.

Z-man: Each of the five machines includes a landing deployment mechanism, so it is possible to display each Mars Machine in a parked state. As a display feature, there is a 3mm hole at the bottom of each machine, which can be used with a standard commercially available pedestal support. You can also display it in the style of a flight scene from the movie.

What about the accessories?

Z-man: A gold-painted Braver Sword blade is included, allowing you to recreate the special move "Mars Prominence." This was made to recreate the scene from episode 39 of "Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive," "Break the Infinite Chain!", in which Victory Mars used Victory Robo's weapon, the Braver Sword, on short notice. It is a linked ver. A.N.I.M.E. that can be recreated by combining it with the Braver Sword from the separately sold "Super Minipla Emergency Combined Victory Robo."

■ Linked ver. A.N.I.M.E. from the "Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive" series

--Currently, PREMIUM BANDAI is accepting orders for the "Super Minipla Emergency Combination Victory Robo" and the giant robots from "Emergency Sentai GoGoFive" that work with "SMP Shooting Star Combination Victory Mars". Please tell us again about the highlights of the resale item.

Z-man"Super Minipla Emergency Combination Victory Robo" is all about the proportions and recreating the combination scene, such as connecting the wires to the Blue Thrower. Also, the fact that you can play with it as a robot after combining, such as the punch that extends the arm ladder in the movie, is a common feature of the series.

▲ "Super Minipla Emergency Combination Victory Robo" was the first release of the "Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive" series from Super Minipla, the predecessor of SMP. You can even recreate the combination scene with wire connections.

--What do you think of the "Super Minipla Combined Grand Liner"?

Z-man: It's the size, isn't it? The robot is about 27cm tall. It's so huge that it's overwhelmingly huge (laughs). The Go Liner before combination can store 99 machines that become Victory Robo. In addition, as a linked ver. A.N.I.M.E. of "Super Minipla", each Mars machine from "SMP Ryusei Gattai Victory Mars" can also be stored. And by combining with "Super Minipla Express Weapon Liner Boy", the Space Go Liner can be reproduced. In the movie, the Mars Machines go into space stored in the Space Go Liner, but the scene of the launch can also be reproduced. At this time, the pink Go Liner 5, which is the last car, can be equipped with the Mars Cannon from "SMP Ryusei Gattai Victory Mars", and the Space Go Liner can be completely reproduced. Before SMP, the person in charge of Victory Robo's start in Super Minipla must have assumed that Victory Mars would complete the run. As a result of the unbroken line of people in charge, who have been passing on the mission of completing the series, the entire "Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive" mecha series is finally here. Fans who missed out on buying them back then should definitely take this opportunity to preorder them along with Victory Mars.

-What do you think about the silhouette of the SMP series that was announced the other day?

Z-man: On Sunday, July 28, the first event in the SMP series, "SMP UNION", will be held at Wonder Festival 2024 [Summer]. At the event, in addition to exhibits that show the history of the SMP series from the Super Mini Plastic series, we plan to announce the "SMP Meteor Merger Victory Mars" as well as the item that has this silhouette.
